GARDEN CENTRE
AND TREE NURSERY

Pro Horto Strgar garden centre and tree nursery
– Fusing tradition with modern trends

The Pro Horto Strgar garden centre has over 200 varieties of trees and shrubs. Plants are sold potted or balled (so they can be planted all year round) or bare-rooted (suitable for dormant planting only). We specialise in fan maples, Japanese maples, ornamental dogwoods and shrub hydrangeas.

Our garden centre is the place to find everything you need to manage your garden, offering a diverse selection of plants, tools, fertilisers and decorations for your outdoor oasis.

Our tree nursery is a special place. We grow some of our own plants, but many are imported from proven European nurseries with whom we have worked for over 30 years. When you visit the garden centre and nursery, you will find a wide selection of shrubs and trees, as well as many varieties of special ornamental plants that will allow you to turn your garden into a garden to enjoy.

Quality, respect for customer wishes and professionalism

Knowing the plants, their position and soil requirements, and what they will look like after five or ten years of growth, is the first obligation of every garden centre worker. I keep up to date with all the latest developments in modern garden centres and plant knowledge, and am happy to give customers quality and competent advice on plant sourcing and care. Good internal plant quality, which is only indirectly perceived and cannot be determined externally, is a prerequisite for good growth and therefore customer satisfaction.

We Slovenians are keen gardeners and lovers of well-tended gardens. But we also make mistakes. One of the classic mistakes is to buy seedlings by eye, rather than by variety and hardiness. We are more likely to buy a plant that looks nice when we buy it, that has nice growth and nice foliage, than to wonder whether it is like that just because it grew quickly because of fertilisers, or whether it has grown for a reasonable length of time with proper care. Our garden centre offers comprehensive support and expert recommendations.

My special love is Japanese maples and we really do have over 60 varieties at the Pro Horto Strgar garden centre. In addition, we have a wide selection of ornamental dogwoods and butterfly hydrangeas, as well as other trees and shrubs. We are importers of Kordes roses! If ever, now is the time to visit the Pro Horto Strgar garden centre at Suhadolčanova ulica 6 in Črnuče. You are cordially invited!

Why choose plants from our garden centre?

null

because they are grown in accordance with EU nursery standards

null

because they have a high intrinsic quality (i.e. the ability of the plant to grow and develop successfully immediately after being transplanted into the garden)

null

because we can advise you competently when choosing plants

null

because we know what we're selling

null

because what matters most to us is a satisfied customer who can feel free to recommend us to their friends and acquaintances

We make sure that we have a large selection of unusual shrubs and trees, and for special requests we go out of our way to source plants from our European suppliers.

! As plants are living organisms, we only guarantee the plants we grow for seedlings that have been planted by our gardeners and maintained for one growing season. Customers are asked to inspect the plant at the time of purchase and to consult a professional at the garden centre about the growing conditions and care required by the plant they have chosen. We cannot be held responsible for plants that die as a result of improper planting, mechanical damage, external weather or improper care. Complaints will only be accepted on presentation of an invoice. For plants that the customer chooses from the nursery, which we dig for them and later reject on delivery, we charge a handling fee of 10% of the plant.
